Job Levels

Overview

Job levels account for growth in complexity and higher-level responsibilities for jobs within a job category. Job levels represent jobs according to the work dimensions, which are the same for jobs within the same job category and level across the University.

The example below illustrates job levels within the Finance job family and Accounting function of WVU's architecture. There are 3-5 job levels per job category. Each job level may be associated with a series of job titles that represent a progression by Roman numeral. Not all job levels will exist in a title series. Job levels were developed based on WVU current positions and jobs typically seen within the market and peer institutions while also keeping in mind anticipated future jobs at the University.
