Job Categories

Overview

In the architecture, jobs are categorized based on primary duties and responsibilities using job categories and levels. Within each job function, there are categories of positions that comprise the job levels. All WVU staff positions will be assigned a job category based on the work being performed.

  • Provides support and/or service in a "hands-on" environment that contributes to regular University operations
  • May include, but is not limited to, work that is administrative, technical, and/or operational in nature
  • Positions in this category are generally paid on an hourly basis.

Organizational Administration Administrative Operations and Support Administrative Support Assistant III Provides complex administrative support to a department or group of professionals in support of unit goals

  • Designs, implements, guides and/or delivers processes, programs and/or policies using specialized knowledge or skills
  • Typically requires attainment of advanced education and/or equivalent advanced learning through experience
  • Positions in this category are typically salaried, though entry levels may include hourly compensation

  • Plans, prioritizes and/or directs responsibilities of employees; and/or manages strategy and policy development for a function, department or unit
  • Positions in this category typically have multiple direct reports and are generally salaried

  • Positions in this category typically report to the University President or Provost and generally manage multiple levels of senior leaders
